Questionnaire for poster

Here is a questionnaire I created to get some peer feedback so that I can cater for my target audience when creating my poster.

Poster Layout

This is a layout I have designed for my poster, so that when I start creating it I have a strong idea on how to design it which will save myself time later on.

Script/Voiceover

Voiceover's are extremely important in a trailer, it is one of the main conventions I have noticed in every trailer I have researched and therefore I feel it is important in my trailer.

-It primarily sets the tone of the film
-It helps the audience make sense of the narrative as they are being shown different clips from the film
-Helps build suspense and anticipation

As my trailer is in the horror genre, it needs to have someone who sounds very scared to intensify the trailer. These are a few of the sentences which I want Lizzie (protagonist) to say:

'Someone is following me'
'Please leave me, leave me alone'
'who is that'
'what is happening to me'

Film Name Choices Audience Research

I decided to ask a target audience of 18 year olds which film name they preferred so I took to Facebook to find out. Below are my results.

Here is the question which I sent out I took a screenshot of the name choices so that they could visually imagine the film.

Below are some answers that were given by my target audience as you can see the majority favoured the name 'Ouija' which I favoured from the start.

After a lot of thought and audience research I have decided the name for my film. I will call my film 'Ouija' as although it suggests what the film is about there leaves a mystery as to what could happen. However I have decided the tag line will be called 'The Unknown' as there are connotations of uncertainty.

Film Name Choices

Below are a few names which I have chosen for my film, I have reflected the narrative of the film by keeping with the horror genre. Most of the names will be related to the Ouija board that the characters take part in during the trailer.

billing block research

A billing block is the list of names which are usually found at the bottom of a film poster. It mainly features the names of directors, the production company, actors, costume director etc. Conventionally the font of a billing block is well known, it is written in capital letters with the all being the same size.

However some films don't stick with the conventional billing block style, which could make it more pleasing to the audience

production company for film

As part of the production for my film I have created my very own production company. The company is called 'Limelight Productions'. I devised the name as I think it is iconic for films as they will are in the 'limelight' They will produce films based around the horror genre, which is why 'Ouija' is perfect for the company to produce. Although the logo is simple it will be easy to distinguish.

font choices and colour scheme for magazine and poster

I have done a lot of in depth research as to the kind of colours and fonts I wish to use in my poster and magazine. By researching fonts and colours on different websites and analysing different images, I now have an idea on what to use when creating my poster and magazine.

story board

Below is the storyboard I created to help guide me when I am filming for my trailer, I have used character A and B so that it makes sense to me and I don't get confused. It isn't in much detail although it gives me a rough idea on what I need to film in each scene. I decided that character B will be the one that comes possessed which means bad things will happen to character A throughout the trailer.

Poster analysis

I wanted to analyse a horror film poster which related to the concept of my trailer, I chose to analyse 'The Orphan' as it uses similar features which I want to use in my movie poster. I really like the dark colours and serious eye contact, whilst there also only being focus on one character leaving it a mystery as to what happens in the movie.

Here are two more posters which I have analysed to get some influence for my movie poster. I decided to analyse 'Saw' and 'Shutter Island' as they have very different colour schemes and images.
